  1. Extremely low microphone volume on Windows 10 PC

I've been using my Sennheiser HD 598SR with my laptop for online classes, discord and music in general. However, I've been facing a major issue lately. Whenever I speak on discord, the person on the other end says that my voice is very feeble and that I should speak up a bit. I've tried bringing the in-line mic closer to my vocal cavity, boosting my mic using external software and uding the built in sound control panel. I've also tried to reinstall my Realtek HD Audio Drivers. For the record, I'm using an Asus ROG Strix G Core G531GT-AL030T (running Windows 10 Home). I tested the mic on the headphones with my iPad and my phone on the same app and it seems to be working properly. How do I go about fixing this?

P.S. I tried testing my mic in the settings and the blue bar barely moves much. It moves more from my mouse clicks/keyboard presses than when I'm actually talking.

TL;DR Mic has very low volume and I've tried all the fixes that I could find on the internet.

Extremely low microphone volume after upgrade

After updating from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (kinda prefer 7 to be honest, but still getting used to 10), I've discovered that the input volume on my microphone - a generic old style (though not immensely old) stalk mic - is extremely low, low enough that
software just considers it noise. I have updated my Realtek audio drivers to no effect. Driver volume and boost set to maximum. Any idea what I can do about this?

  3. Microphone Input Extremely Low

    Hi AustinAtlantis,

I’m Mario an Independent Advisor. I’m here to work with you on this problem.

Considering that you executed the troubleshooting and updated the drivers, I suggest, reviewing some definitions on your laptop:

The basic is to review the sound but you explained that is on 100%, this way we skipped this point and go to try to boost your microphone levels, starting on the screen that allows you adjust the volume (on 100%), please follow the next steps:

    - Click on “Additional device properties.” Doing so will open a window labelled “Microphone Properties.”

    - Click on the “Levels” tab. Here you should see two sliders, one for your microphone’s volume, and one called Microphone Boost.

    - Your microphone’s volume should already be at 100 percent. If for some reason it is not, go ahead and move the slider up to 100 percent. The Microphone Boost slider can be found directly underneath the volume slider. The Microphone Boost option can be used
to increase your microphone’s output volume an additional 30 decibels. I recommend that you increase the boost incrementally (e.g. +10 dB) and then test your microphone levels before increasing it further.

Alternatives to find Microphone Boost Level option:

Alternatively, you can adjust your microphone’s volume and boost its output via the Control Panel. Simply type “control panel” in the Windows taskbar search field and click on “Control Panel.” From there, select “Sound.”

This will prompt a new window to open that is labeled “Sound.” In the tabs at the top of the window, click on the one that says “Recording.” Here you will see the microphones that are connected to your PC. Highlight the one you are using and click on “Properties.”

This will open a new window labeled “Microphone Properties.” Here, select the “Levels” tab. You should be presented with two sliders: one for your microphone’s volume and one that will allow you to boost its output.

Please, I found some links that add below for your review, with more details about particular headsets that I think could be helpful:

  4. Extremely low microphone volume on Windows 10 PC

    Extremely low microphone volume

Since version 1803 I'm facing issues with my microphone. As mentioned in the title, the volume is EXTREMELY low, to the point that holding it further than 1cm from the mouth made me almost inaudible on skype or discord. The microphone is zalman zm1. Tried
    several others, the issue remained.

Since it was plugged into Xonar DX I had no access to enhancement tab and boost. The drivers are custom, so the issue is not caused by new drivers changing anything.

For the time being I plugged the microphone into the motherboard in order to use the boost. However, this is not a solution because boost is artificial and significantly reduces the quality.

Is there any fix to this issue? Pretty much every topic on the matter concludes with "plug into the motherboard, 30db boost and that's it" which is ridiculous.

I already tried newest realtek drivers as well as old drivers from Asus for my motherboard, both fail to resolve the issue.
