Extremely slow extraction of ZIP folder

I downloaded an old arduino software release, and the download was a 100mb compressed ZIP folder. Nothing strange about that. But I just extracted the folder and something weird happened. The process took about 10 minutes and the speed almost never exceeded 1mb/s, and was often around 100kb/s.

Why did the folder extract so slowly? Does the speed simply depend on the contents of the folder and how efficiently it's compressed? (the uncompressed folder is about 370 mb). Is there anything I can do to increase the speed next time something like this happens?

Also, I think its safe to say that it wasn't due to CPU bottleneck or anything. CPU or memory usage wasn't that high during the extraction. File explorer was utilizing about 20% of the CPU. This computer is pretty old and has an Intel core 2 (2.67ghz and 4 cores)

    Extracting Zip Files

Are the step-by-step processes identical? That is, the folder extracted from and the folder extracted to belong to the same hierarchical file system structure. If they are, that suggests mildly the Cumulative Update left an electron or two out of place.

Thanks pyramid10 for your contribution, I ensured that the steps taken and the source and destination folders were the same, in the using zip7 as suggested by BunnyJ resolved all issues for me.
I am the first to admit that I am a long long way from understanding the intricacies of computers and if truth be told I am now to old anyway to absorb much information.
    Cheers.

    Slow Extraction of .zip File

Why is Windows 10 so slow in extracting a standard .zip file? It takes forever to unpack a simple ,zip file and seems to be much longer than previous versions.
