Windows 10: Extremely slow restart, stuck on Welcome scresn

As the title says, my computer works fine once I'm in, but every time I have yo restart it takes forever. Hours. And I always get stuck on the welcome screen after entering my password.

This doesn't seem to be an uncommon problem. I've seen it asked and covered on several forums and websites. But the answers all seem to be the same: do a hard shutdown, boot it in safe mode, disable fast startup, try unplugging usb's...nothing seems to work though. I've started it in safe mode and was able to get in, although that still took forever. Then I restarted it again and I'm still waiting. I've disabled every unnecessary startup app, unplugged my wifi dongle and I'm still stuck. How do I even go about troubleshooting this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Windows 8.1 suddenly my pc is extremely slow any suggestions please

 

Jumplist sometimes extremely slow

I bought a new laptop with Windows 10 recently.

Only after a few days, the jump lists started to get extremely slow.

But they behave that way just for a while, then they work as they should again.

When slow, it takes several minutes for the jump list to appear. It is extremely annoying. Especially e.g. when I have opened a remote desktop and want to open another one via the jumplist.

I had exactly the same problem with my old Windows 7 PC and assumed that I would get rid of that problem,
changing both PC and OS, but no.

I do not want the standard answers to this problem:

- Disable Aero

- Clear the (Explorer) Cache for Jump lists

- etc.

It is definitely something else. I mean, how would the jump list cache get full after only a week? And why does the jump list get slow only sometimes and then suddenly works just fine again?

So please, give me an answer that takes this into consideration.

Hello - there's solution posted here - but cannot say if it works totally yet though but it has helped me just now. Hope it helps you too. Save any work open first, before you do this.

Step by step guide:
1. Hold Win+r to open run
2. Type msconfig and hit ok or enter
3. Click Services
4. Navigate to Windows search (you can sort the list in descending alphabetical order)
5. Uncheck tickbox
6. Click apply then ok
7. Select to restart now

Hope this works for you.

-- Your system will need a restart when it reconfigures itself so save any work first. I tried this myself and it ran slow first time while it indexed slow directories - then after I closed file explorer and reloaded it it ran fast on slow directories. I hope it helps you.
