Windows 10: Eye Strain and Headache when using Windows 10 ...is it also making my vision worse?

Whatever is going on with Windows 10 I think it's not only causing eyestrain but may be harming my vision outside of computing.


I finally switched from Windows 7 to Windows 10 In September 2020 and to make it easier for me to transfer material I select I have my old Windows 7 on one machine and the new Windows 10 on a newer version of the same computer. They're both running on the same monitor and I can switch between the two as needed and complete the migration as I have time.


The moment I started using the Windows 10 machine my eyes began to hurt. Then I'd switch over to the Windows 7 machine and the pain would go away. This has kept up over the past two months. I've made all the display changes, settings checks, clear type, gone to dark mode, night mode, and then gotten glasses and an add on screen to neutralize the still much too bright white. Do you want me to keep going? So please don't respond with the basic advice to go into settings and turn on night mode, clear text, etc. Just feel free to list all the possible solutions -- and I really hope to find some obscure one I haven't tried yet.


Everything I've done has made it better but not better enough. I still get an "eye ache" and headache from Windows 10 which goes away the moment I switch back to Windows 7 -- but now I'm noticing a change in my eyesight when I'm not computing. The room seems darker and I often have to turn the lights. In other words, my vision when I'm away from the computer is also dimming,


What is going on? People have said Windows 10 is intentionally brighter which is why this is happening and why you've instituted all these fixes for eye strain. Can you explain why you do that? And am I going to lose my eyesight because of your decision? I am really a diehard MS user since the DOS days! and would hate to have to move to Apple for the first time in my life but if that is the only solution may have to. Is there anything I can do to solve this? Please help.

Eye strain on Windows 10 but not on Windows 7 on the same laptop

I have laptop Thinkpad T420 with two disks. On the first disk i have Windows 7 and on the second disk i installed Windows 10, but i found that on Windows 10 i feel eye strain and i can't find why. The brightness, contrast, gamma and hue settings are the
same on both installs, but i feel eye strain only on Windows 10. Any idea what might be causing eye strain on Windows 10? My video card is Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000.
