Windows 10: f8 button for muting and unmuting microphone not working.

Essentially, the f8 button used to mute on my laptop HP ProBook 450 GB Notebook PC has remained toggled, and will not turn off. I've tried pressing it in combination with the fn button which has never been required to turn it off or on, but I still figured it would at least be worth a try. The only way I can seem to unmute it is to call someone on Whatsapp, as the mute button on Whatsapp somehow untoggles it. PLEASE help

In general, the microphone is on mute. We'd like to clarify following steps that you've done and ask you a few questions:

• When you unmute the microphone, is it via Recording tab under
  Recording devices?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Are there any newly installed applications that may have caused this?
• Is this an on going issue or recent?
  

 

microphone mutes itself

When i go into properties the mike is muted. When I unmute it works for less than a minute then mutes again. The only suggestion I have found is set as default device which does not solve problem. I have also read it is a virus but I cannot solve with malware or virus scans. It first became a problem just a few weeks ago while skyping. Never had a problem with mike until then.

Troubleshooter finds the microphone muted and fixes, Within a minute the microphone mutes itself again.

 

any way to mute and unmute microphone quick ??


I got me a new microphone and like most all microphones for PC there is no on and off switch, so on that note how can i mute and unmute it quick without having to click several things to get to the mute stuff, any ideas thanks. it saves also having to unplug and plug it in every time which would eventually we're usb ports out.
