Failed drive now shows as "CD Drive E:" and I can't remove or rename

few months ago my secondary HDD failed. I didn't care at the time but now I want to install a program i used to have on the drive and when I try to install the application it give me an error saying:

"The drive or UNC share you selected does not exist or is not accessible. Please select another."

I tried uninstalling the old application that was on the failed HDD from add/remove but it says:

"Windows cannot find 'E:\app name\unins000.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

Also trying to run the applicationor any other application from the failed drive brings up:

"Please insert a disk into CD Drive E:."

From here I looking into removing or changing the drive letter.

    I tried:

    1. looking in disk management but it didn't dhow up there.

    2. using Command Prompt commands Diskpark, and net use

    3. renamed the drive letter from my registry in HKLM\System\MountedDevices:

I'm not sure what to try next but i'll keep looking around too and update my post if I find anything new.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to any replies.

    Optical Drive Issue

    Hi Jerry, you're welcome.

Here's mine after I rt clk'd on my Documents Folder like you show in Scrsht 11:

Failed drive now shows as "CD Drive E:" and I can't remove or rename [IMG]

I'd like to wait until you reply to my question in Scrsht 12, if it is a remnant of the process try deleting the one on the dsktp and see if the one in send to also disappears. If it stays in send to, test it, and if you're still having problems I'd suggest you could go back to: Option One: To Add or Remove Items in Send To context menu for Your Account (current user) and do Step 3 to remove it and start over using Step 4 but be very careful of your steps in creating the shortcut and be sure you d&d that shortcut to the send to part of the address.

I'm busy today and I probably won't be back until the evening.

    CD drive error

    1) Close all open programs
    2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
    3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

    UpperFilters
    LowerFilters
    UpperFilters.bak
    LowerFilters.bak
    5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
    6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
    7) Reboot your computer
    8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

And it likely has something to do with the emulated drive you have listed there.
