Well my IT game playing granola eater friend, that is what I thought I said, but maybe some of you need lessons. Hang in there and some day you'll understand.

No problem at all. So you have (x64 I assume) Intel® Iris™, Iris™ Pro and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 64-bit version 15.36.23.64.4251 (10.18.14.4251) released 7-27-2015. And no bangs in Device Manager at all? even with showing hidden devices? Because someone said that they called MS support with upgrade failures and was told that failure in the early percentage is due to drivers. There's also a BIOS update from this past May.

One other thing: I have a system here that I can not get the GWX to come through on, and I noticed that there were 3 optional windows updates waiting. When I clicked on "more information" I found that one of them is specifically to facilitate upgrades to current windows OS.

"This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

I realise you are on W8, but there could be a similar optional update for your system as well.

    Hi

Just to check, did you try setting the Selective StartUp and only 'Load system services' selected?

    Type Run in search
    Type msconfig
    Select General tab
    Select Selective Startup
    Only check Load system services

Sorry if this is something you did try in our previous posts. *Redface

    Regards

Well, I surrendered and went the "nuclear" route: I clean installed from a Win8.1 Home disk, upgraded that to Win10 and activated, then reformatted and installed a clean version of Win10. Still some hiccups along that path, but I'll spare you all the details.

    Case closed.
