Windows 10: Failed to install Windows update, error 0x8024001e

I get the above error message when I try any 'update available' and apart from Definition Updates they arrive automatically. I can't get any other updates, and the following message appears. "Error encountered. We were unable to complete the installation because an update service was shutting down." I have tried the Windows troubleshooter and it does not report any errors found. My computer seems to be working fine other than this little glitch. I would appreciate a solution from the Community.

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

Windows update Error encounted 0x8024001e

I've been getting this error. I did retry with no luck.




I looked in history and it would seem this is the failed item under other updates with error 0x8024001e

All OK now . I ran sfc/ scannow and the error went. I ran update and it installed fine.

Yeah, check Windows Updates again.

Exactly what version of Windows 10 are you using?
In the taskbar search box type: winver and then hit ENTER

For example I am on version 19042.844
