Windows 10: Failed to update Windows 10 home 32 bit from 1703 to 1709

I am experiencing something strange. I have Windows 10 home 32 bit version 1703 on my hp pavillion x2 and I cannot update it to 1709. Windows Update returns an error after downloading the feature update, Windows Update Assistant reports that I have 1511 and I should update it to 1607 (???) while winver reports correctly 1703, and the Windows Update Troubleshooter did not fix the problem.
What am I doing wrong? Should I go for a clean install?

32 bit - 2.7 GBs

64 bit - 3.5 GBs

Windows 10 1709:

32 bit - 3.7 GBs

64 bit - 4.4 GBs

 

Forget about Windows Update.
Use this Media Creation Tool link :
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

Click the Update Now button.
That will bring up the Update Assistant to check if your device is ready for update.
If approved, it will start downloading the updates etc. Just follow the prompts from then on.

 

I have downloaded and installed the Windows Update Assistant. The problem with it, is that it reports wrongly the version of my windows, while winver does it wright.

Is it going to work if I use it through the Media Creation Tool?

 

Why not just give it a try and find out for yourself ?
It will take less than 10 minutes for the Update assistant to tell you that.

 

It has worked! It did the trick and now I have 1709 on my humble HP. It works like a charm, even has fast boot properly working!

Good stuff that you finally got it to work. I am still having the problems upgrading the 1703, but mine is on a netbook. It passes the test and downloads everything and verifies ok. However it fails at around 75% on the installation. I get so tee'd off that I forget to write down the failure code. But every couple days I retry it. I have all USB ports vacant and do a fresh reboot and try the install so it shouldn't be an external device problem. Keep pressing on...
