Windows 10: Failed too update windows 8.1-10 error was prepare rollback safe_os 0x80070002 - 0x20009

Failed too update from windows 8.1 to 10however computer displays this error after restarting itself. The error was: prepare rollback safe_os 0x80070002 - 0x20009I've safely disconnected my other hard drive as one of the forums with similar problems on here said to do.I've also tried to free up more storage around 100GB for the update, i don't know if it could be my drive not fully updated but that is also an error when trying to update it.Not sure what to do next i really want to update so I can play some upcoming games. :Here's the specs

WIN 8.1 to WIN 10 upgrade error 0x80070002-0x20009

I cannot update to windows 10. The problem my computer having is like this : Once it finishes 2713.8 MB of update with Windows Update or MCTx64, computer restarts, then the screen for updating to windows
10 comes for a second and it restarts at 0%. Once I boot up to windows this error pops up:

"0x80070002-0x20009

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during PEPARE_ROLLBACK operation."

 

Windows 10 anniversary update 1607 failed after reboot and gives the error 0x80073B92 - 0x20009

when running windows 10 anniversary update, after restart and it is finished it got the message in action center "we couldn't finish installing update". i have version 10.0.10586. Also manual update from Installation disk fails.

It gives the error 0x80073B92 - 0x20009, "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during PREPARE_ROLLBACK operation"

 

2004 update windows 10 error 0x80070002

Hello everyone,

thanks to some of the suggestions here and to some from other sources I have managed to fix the 0x80070002 error breaking up my feature update to 2004.

For completeness' sake and since it may help others, the following steps worked for me.

1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website
2. Create a bootable USB drive with the MCT
3. Boot up from this USB Drive
4. Choose install settings, click 'Next', but on the next screen select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"
5. Choose "Troubleshoot" -> "Startup Repair" and let it finish
6. Restart into Windows and attempt the usual Windows update

It looks like the BCD on my computer had been damaged by the boot loader (Windows 10 + Recovery partition) and running the "Startup Repair" from the installation USB Drive corrected the errors.
