Windows 10: Failing to preform factory reset

Recently been having issues with my laptop constantly freezing whether or not I had any apps open, I had an update available but due to the constant freezing my laptop could never finish the update and due to me needing this laptop for work and school but having no important files on it at the time decided to preform a full factory reset without keeping any files/data because I couldn't wait any longer trying to update it and couldn't figure out the issue. It has been almost 3 days and it just went from the "preparing to reset" screen to the "resetting this pc" screen, additionally, I can hear the fan whirring but the light on the side is solid and not blinking. I had only 2 installed applications on this laptop and only a handful of unimportant word docs and photos- should i just let it keep running or should I cancel it and try again?

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.


First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".

No, nothing else is connected to my laptop at all. I attempted the factory reset through the command prompt because it would fail (several times) by using the steps you're suggesting. It began the process and I waited at least 4 hours for it to slowly reach
a higher percentage (it got to more than 80%) and when I looked at the laptop again, there was a failure message.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
