Windows 10: Failure of Windows 10 to remember default programs for second user

My computer has two users, both administrators. For the first, Windows 10 remembers all default programs to open file types. For the second, it never does. After a restart, they've all reverted to the Microsoft defaults and have to be reset (for instance, to make Chrome the default browser instead of Edge). Very often, the first attempt to reset them does not take effect and has to be redone. It's very frustrating and makes me long for Windows 7. It has been this way since the computer was new, four months ago, and I've tried everything to no avail. It does not matter which user shuts down the computer.

To understand the issue better, I would like to know how did you set the .wav files default to Windows Media Player?
Please elaborate the steps.



For now let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below steps.

  On the Windows search bar type default program and select
  Default Program.
  
• 
  Click on Default app and click on
  Choose default app by file type.
  
• 
  Locate for the .wav, click next to it and select
  Windows media player.
  

If the issue still persist, if might be possible that the user account is corrupt. I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue still persist. Visit the below link to create new user account.

I suggest you to follow the below steps how to set as default app.

• In the search box, type “settings”.
• Click on “system” and on the left hand corner click on
  “default apps”.
• Under “choose default apps” click on the “+” symbol and you can
  add the apps.
