[FAILURE] RAID/Drive-Configuration fucked up since 1909

    Hey,
After 1909 Update my Software Raid (2x WD Red HDD) in Win10 failed and give me "It's not accessible" and "wrong parameter" warnings. In Disk Management I can see both drives but one of them shows no Filesystem (Its a Unlabeled Volume with no FS). Drive Letter is assigned and re-assigned and i cannot format the drive because of wrong parameter.

All other drives have now "Local Disk" as a name. Custom Names are gone. What happened there and can somebody help me?

  2. Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

    Steps to confirm issue:

    • Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
    • Secondary drive not visible in device manager
    • Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

    Steps to replicate issue:

    • Installing 1909 update

    Steps to resolve issue:

    • Uninstall 1909 update

Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.

  3. RAID Configuration

    Hi Helmi,

    This link talks about Raids,

    RAID - Wikipedia

    or

    https://www.prepressure.com/library/technology/...

Personally i would use a raid 1 due to how it has mirrored the data on both drives. Encase of HDD failure your data is safe. But again depends on what you want to get from it.

I would recommend that both drives be the same size and specs as each other.

Here below is a calculator tool for selecting the raid and size hdd's you have.

    Thanks

    RAID, Backing Up, Questions etc

Ok, Ive done a search for RAID related articles on the forums and Ive read through them.
I'd like to RAID my hard drives very soon.

    This is what I have:
    1x Seagate 7200.10 Perpendicular - 320Gb
    1x Seagate 7200.10 Perpendicular - 250Gb

Id like to set them up in a RAID 0 configuration.
Ive backed up my Music, downloads, main applications and photos.
Basically Im ready to go though the steps to RAID my drives and reinstall windows.

    Now...I have some concerns

    1) Do I format the drives? Or will formatting occur during the setting up of the RAID?

    2) How to actually configure the RAID. So if I was to do this now, what are the steps I would have to follow to setup the RAID correctly? I know them vaguely, like having the RAID drivers ready on a CD/Floppy and booting and hitting F6. What else is there?

    3) Striping size. Ive heard that a higher stripe size is good for moving/using large files. Ill definately be doing this (Photoshop) so can anyone suggest a stripe size?

    4) Can anyone suggest any other concerns?
