Windows 10: Failure to install KB4489868

Windows Update continues to attempt installation of this update and each time ends up a failure.

After clicking 'update and restart' it shows the usual preparing to install text before shutting down (the same happens with 'update and shutdown'). Once it starts up, it'll load a few percentage and then says that the update failed. This has happened multiple times.




I have attempted manually installing KB4489868 to no avail.

My laptop just has installed automatic update KB4489868 , now I have severe problems displaying / rendering fonts.

Twitter and discussion forums are almost impossible to use now.

When will this be fixed ?

Try uninstalling KB4489868 and see if that helps:

1. Open Settings app and go to Update & security > Update history >Uninstall updates.

2. This will open list of Installed Updates in Control Panel. From the list, choose the Windows Update you want to remove and click Uninstall.

3. In the confirmation prompt, select Yes.

Alternatively, if you've System Restore point created earlier, you can also use it to restore back your system.

"Application Install install package failure!" while installing 13.9

Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and MSI 6970 Lightning.

I was upgrading from 13.4 after I did a clean uninstall with AMD Catalyst Install Manager.

Doesn't say what installation failed in the install log. Everything in the log says Success but at the very bottom it says "Application Install: install package failure!" but doesn't say what failed to install.

I only install video drivers and no CCC.

The only thing I noticed is AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed in my programs list.
