Windows 10: failure when upgrading from W8.1 to W10 - error code 0x80004005 - 0x50015

I'm trying to upgrade from W8.1 to W10 on an HP laptop -- Model = HP ENVY dv6 Notebook PC, HostOSArchitecture = 1033, FirmwareType = UEFI. It has quad i7 processors, 16GB memory, and 500 GB hard drive mostly empty. I am using the Media Creation Tool and all goes well until 73% complete in the actual upgrade process. The download and pre-lim work were uneventful. I tried a few minor suggestions from friends, but none changed the result -- failure at 73% complete and error 0x80004005 - 0x50015.Expert advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Results from yesterday - SFC / Scannow - Windows Resource protection did not find any integrity violations.

Update Assistant ran and failed with the same error as previously:-

Error: SetupDiag reports down-level failure found.

Failure Data: Last Setup Phase = Finalize

Last Setup Operation = Update Boot Code

Error = 0x80004005-0x50015

Another day and another failure I'm afraid. I carried out the disk clean up and then ran the Media Creation Tool once more but it crashed at the same point. :-
