Windows 10: Fan Controller of Case works fine in Bios with PWM Mode but not in Windows

Hello,i got Gigabyte X670 GAMING X AX and Be quiet silent base 802 case where a fan controller is mounted for the case fans. When switching the mode inside bios from auto to PWM Which also stands on the fan controller cable you can clearly hear its gets quiet, and the curve is working.Now inside windows the fans constantly spin at allmost full speed. Yes on case is a switch for 1/2/3/Auto, and it sets to Auto. Strangly when booting windows in safe mode, i dont have this problem, so my guess is there some software/service running which override it.The cpu fan is runnin fine why e

PWM fan controller for an eight year old PC?

Hello chaps!

I have a EVGA 790i Ultra SLI motherboard that just wont quit and the system built around it is fine for my needs.

However, it could be quieter so I purchased four of those Corsair ML120 fans but soon realised that they are PWM only once I heard them creating a high pitched whine when I dialed down the voltage on my fan controller.

So I don't really want to get rid of the fans but they are really noisy in my system because I have no PWM controller on this board.

I cannot find a PWM controller apart from the Zalman Fan Mate but that is reaaally hard to source. I guess no one want to buuy this tech because it is on all mobo's nowadays. I don't care about the temperature control either I just want to slow them down so they don't whine.

So does anyone have any suggestions on this rather niche requirement?

 

PWM fan control note

The PWM fan control circuit listed on this site will in fact drive 12v back to a pin that is only rated at 5.5V. The reason for this is voltage will not drop across the series resistance that lies between VCC and Base, but current will be limited (as already noted).

I suggest implementing a voltage divider that limits the base voltage to no more than 5.5V. Not wanting to dig up old junk but just thought this might be "less intellectual" way of describing a fault with the PWM circuit.

And if using more than 1 fan or a higher wattage fan, an FET would probably be better.

PWM fan setting in BIOS = 100%

Are the stock case fans 3 pin or 4 pin? Normally they are 3 pin (DC). To use the PWM settings you must have 4 pin (PWM) fans. That would explain why they work normally with DC settings. Once you buy 4 pin PWM fans, they should work fine in PWM mode. All your fan headers are 4 pin, and can use either type of fan.
