Windows 10: Fan not working Asus TP500LN?

I have an Asus laptop with a Nvidia 840M, and after it shut down during Limbo I realized my fan wasn't working. I could not hear it running, so I tried Speedfan. But Speedfan is unable to recognize any internal fans, and CPUID just says that the CPU fan is at 0RPM. There's nothing in the BIOS and I think my drivers are all up to date. I don't know if this is a Windows 10, driver, or hardware problem as i don't remember what my fan was like before.

Fan speed problems on ASUS ux501 (Windows 10)

I have a weird problem on my new ASUS ux501. Fan are always on 100% or 0% speed, when Intel HD Graphics 530 is working. Othervise, while nVidia GTX 960m is working, fan speed is near 0% or wery low. So this makes trottling. it is weird, because the fan controll
should be swapped for silent work on Intel and high-perfomance work with fast cooling on nVidia.

I have:

Windows 10

Installed all new Drivers from official ASUS website

Turned on passive mode on Power Settings (but fans still on 0% or 100% speed)

Updated BIOS

The fan of the laptop is always on, the graphical card updated!...the fan runs like a crazy!

My laptop model is : ASUS zeenbook3 ux430uq.

 

Hardware.. Windows does not control that as far as I know.

 

It would be controlled by drivers. The hardware should do basic controls, but the software should be able to handle finer tuning. The audio jack on this laptop sharted out so I'm worried it is a hardware failure.

 

If your CPU fan is not running you would be wise to turn off your laptop.

 

The CPU fan is not controlled by drivers. Its controlled by hardware on the motherboard that works totally independent from the OS. There are utilities that will display its speed and maybe let you adjust the speed if the hardware supports it, but whether it works or not, is not depended on Windows or windows drivers. It's totally controlled my hardware on the motherboard. That's why the CPU fan spins up as soon as you turn your PC on, even before the OS is loaded.

Pretty well. You could try cleaning the dust bunnies out with compressed air. It may be just fud jamming it and keeping it from turning. You can get small cans for cleaning the dust out of fans etc at computer stores made just for this type of thing.

 

I opened it up and spun the fan around a little. It catched a bit at first but then began to spin a bit more freely. I have to try to get temps up to see if the fan runs better, as Ivy Bridge runs remarkably cool so the fans don't kick in for a while.

 

It should spin as max speed for a couple of seconds on power up and then slow down or stop. My two laptops both do this. Then it turns back on when things get hot.

I opened up this computer (amazingly easy) and spun the fan around a bit. It stuck a little initially, but became more smooth running after a little while. I launched HWmonitor while playing LIMBO and the fan had jumped up to 25000RPM, so it should be working now. I found I have some Nvidia driver issues so I'll be updating it before doing a full stress test.

 

For my laptop, it is sort of the same, fan isn't spinning. I am quite sure that it is because it is not hot enough and when the cpu reach certain temperature, it spins~
