  1. Fan Running Unnecessarily after CTRL+WiNDOWS+B+SHIFT

I recently used the key combination CTRL+windows+shift+B after reading that it helped solved an issue with a stubborn blank screen persisting after PC sleep mode. Since then, my computer's fan has been running almost constantly and unnecessarily at high speed. It's not a temperature issue since my temperature app shows the core temps this morning to be under 100F -- yet the fan is clearly audible. I am running a Dell G15 with Intel Core 17.

    :)

How to delete shortcut Ctrl + Shift?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

For better clarity, please help us with the details requested below:

    • Have you assigned the “Ctrl + Shift” shortcut for any application?

Ideally, the shortcut Ctrl + Shift is used to switch the keyboard layout when multiple keyboard layouts are available. If you have assigned the shortcut for a keyboard layout, you may try changing it by following the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows Logo key + I, to open
      Settings.
    2. Click on Devices and select
      Typing
      on the left pane.
    3. Scroll down and select Advanced keyboard settings.
    4. Click on Input language hot keys.
    5. Select the layout for which you have assigned the shortcut and click on
      Change Key Sequence.
    6. Under Switch Keyboard Layout, select
      Not assigned.
    7. Click on OK (Twice).

    Let us know the results.

  3. Resize and rearrange desktop icons with ctrl+shift+(1-0)

To change your desktop icons from vertical to horizontal, follow the steps below:

    • Right-click on your desktop.
    • Select small icons.

Once done, try to change again the size and display of your desktop icons using the
Ctrl+shift+(1-0) mode and check if the same issue persists.

Let us know how it goes.

shift and ctrl keys not working - windows 10

We can see here that you are having issues using the Shift and Ctrl keys on your keyboard. To isolate this concern, have you performed the following:

    • Right-click on Start menu.
    • Select Control Panel.
    • Choose Ease of Access.
    • Click on Change how your keyboard works.
    • Tick the box beside Turn on Sticky Keys.
    • Click on Apply.
    • Select OK.

If so, we suggest that you revert the computer back to its previous version. You can free up some space in your disk drive by backing up some files to an external hard drive.
