restarted next morning after last windows 10 update and my fans were running at 100% till I got in to adjust to manual settings I had. Now every time I boot up till my manual settings in alienware command center kick in they run at 100%. I am always in a hurry but I think I saw a "personal settings" warning flash when windows opened that first time. Tried auto which put them at 55% until a restart the same thing 100%.
the undue stress every time I start up is unnecessary, what should I try?

    :)

Fans at 100% after last update

Since last update my fans are running at 100% at startup boot till windows loads and my command center loads with my manual fan speeds. They were gone initially till I reset them. On auto they are at 55% until another shut down and back to the 100%

Obviously from reading the forums this has been a reoccurring problem since 2015 and I would expect Microsoft to do something about it. We have to accept the updates to run the OS then don't screw them up or leave a way to disable things like GC drivers
    to the user.

I hope to hear a quick response to this discussion as the stress on my comp every start up is unnecessary and could be damaging.

The fans on initial start up on a cold comp is suppose to be 1% not 55% and 100%!

I read a few fixes and I'm going to try one that sounds like a possible fix but I resent having to go through all this. They state in the update notes no ISSUES and ignore.

  3. All the fans max at 100% after upgrading to Windows 10

My CPU fan, PCI fan, HDD fans, and system fan (the one on the tower itself) are all running at 100% max speed when Windows 10 boots up. I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 and in Windows 7 I had no issues. I can manually control the fans and lower the
speed, so it's not sounding like a jet engine. I set them to about 50% (which is still a bit high, but better safe than sorry).

At 50% speed, my temps are running around 27C, so it's not over heating, my CPU load is around 6% to 8%, memory is around 20% (too many Chrome tabs open), I don't have any services that are out of control and eating a ton of resources.

I did some research and I found a couple of things:

    • Turn off notifications - no luck
    • Sometimes upgrading to Windows 10 can duplicate your display drivers - this didn't happen to me
    • There was a handful of services that people posted that had issues, none of them I had. Again, I don't have any service or application eating up my resources.
    • I've tried messing with the cooling settings in the power settings - no dice.
    • I've upgraded my mobo drivers - no luck
    • Even upgraded my BIOS - no luck
    • Checked all my hardware had up to date drivers - no luck.
I'm running an i7-3820, with 16GB of RAM, an Nvidia GTX 660 and GTX 970 - I have a 256GB SSD Crucial CT256MX and a 3 TB HD (Windows is installed on the SSD).

The first few days of using Windows 10, there wasn't any fan issues, and it just started today - so what changed? The only change was that I install Samsung SideSync and uTorrent - I uninstalled them both and no luck.

I have no idea what to do next.

Hi PattiB. Welcome to the TenForums @PattiB

    While I don't have a solution I do have a few questions?

When you boot or start your fans go to 100%. If you open task manager any chance your CPU / Disk is running at 100%? If not at 100% are either running at high levels, say above 60%?

If either are running at high levels, with you doing nothing, how long are they running at these levels?

    Hey Ken,
As I wrote they do this during startup, booting till windows loads and then my command center manual curve settings kick in. It affects just the hd fan and the pc fan not the CPU fans.
I read a little and saw this was a problem with an update back in 2015 and it seems to be back. side note what is wrong with the script in this forum?? Very laggy must type so slowly etc. somethings up. Might unjoin and uninstall.. really bad.
I am going try a solution someone used back then and reinstall the command center. Have put off as major removal steps to wipe it and install new. Thanks for the response though. Windows should be doing something about this not that uncommon update "bug" and respond.
