  1. Fast Shutdown

Ever since I updated my computers to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, my computers are not shutting down in fast shutdown mode. Can I turn the feature back on or is this a bug until Microsoft can update the OS with a fix?

All of my computers have the UEFI BIOS. So, they should shut down like they always have.

    :)

  2. Microsoft must review the Fast shutdows (hybrid shutdown) in Windows 10 Takes too much time shutdown

I heve been watching forums with people who are having problems with Windows 10 fast boot/shutdown ( hybrid shutdown) and I include myself, as a reported behavior seems to be constant, the devices... laptops, desktop PCs remain in a state of shutdown,
they are hanging on the shutdown process and takes way too much time to shutdown.

In my case, my desktop PC with Windows 10 Home 64bits and enable fast boot/shutdown (hybrid shutdown) are little faster booting up, but when you shutdown the PC its turn off the screen fast but then stays on a long time with the lights on and fans running.
the actually shuting down takes really long time.

But when I disable boot/shutdown fast (hybrid shutdown) PC turns off completely fast

    Fast Shutdown

    Hello Jesse,

The "Shutting Down' screen lets your system save any applications/programs that haven't been saved or exit out of any programs that haven't been closed properly when turning off your computer. The "Please Wait" screen gives your computer time to recover any
saved files/data and startup any programs that are set to launch upon startup.

To better assist you, we would like to know how long does it approximately take when you try to shut your computer down compared to how it was before installing the Fall Creators Update. Also, we would like to verify if you have configured any of your power
    settings.

We're looking forward for your response.

Use the batch script see it will speed up shutdown time.

  5. I fixed it by changing the power setting to High Performance, rebooting, and then changing the power setting back to the defaults.

  7. Amongst all of this going on, I got a new phone. My family and I were all due for an upgrade with Verizon. I upgraded from an iPhone 5s to a 6s. My sister upgraded from a 5s to a 7 Plus. My mom upgraded from a Motorola DROID MAXX 2 to a Samsung Galaxy S7.

Okay. So, the issue has returned. What’s happening is when I go to log off at night and shut down, the computer has an extra screen that says “Shutting Down” and it will eventually go off. When I go to start it up, it says “Please Wait”, and then it will eventually return to the Lock screen. It acts as if the profile is loading slower in the Fall Creators Update than the previous update. Can someone help me with this issue? It used to not have an extra screen when shutting down or starting up. It would go directly to the lock screen or would directly shut down.

You may not have noticed, but the behaviour of Shut Down and Restart have been changed for the Fall Creators Update. If you shut down or restart while apps are still open, those that are capable of being restarted will reopen on the next boot. It's one of the least publicised new features and has caused much head-scratching until we got to the bottom of it.
on a restart Fall Creators Update reopens apps from before

Apparently this is 'for our own good'...

I too see the extra screens now, but for me they don't last too long. Presumably they are shown while the data necessary for restarting the apps is being saved/reloaded. Not all apps can be restarted, Notepad and Edge can't, Wordpad and IE can.

There are two way to shut down the 'old' way without restarting apps. Alt-F4 on the desktop still shuts down the old way. Shortcuts using the shutdown command can also be used. My preferred method is the shortcuts, putting them in a folder means I can have a toolbar on my taskbar for quick access. I use shutdown /p to shut down, it should shut down using Fast Startup if you have it turned on (I prefer it turned off).

Edit: Comparing the old and new styles of shut down, I still see the 'please wait...' screen on boot after an 'old style' shut down, but its there for a much shorter time. It seems to replace what was just a black screen with just a mouse cursor that I saw in previous versions. I always wondered if it was ever going to start when I saw that, perhaps the circling dots are there to reassure us that it's still working *Smile

  11. Thank you Bree! I too, will probably find the shortcut commands more convenient.

  12. Bree, what command did you use for yours? I am asking because my mom's desktop acts as if it is being restarted after it shuts down and powered back up, after the update.

    Fast Shutdown

To shut down I use the first command from Option Eight in Brink's tutorial. Rather than typing it in a command prompt I have it set up as a shortcut.

For an immediate restart I use shutdown /r /t 0

    I use shutdown /s /hybrid /t 0

Without /hybrid, the shutdown is like pressing power off, and pc has to do a full restart than a fastboot restart which is significantly slower on my device.
