Thank you for explaining so that others can fully understand my original post that playing around with the registry will have no input in the development of this Preview O/S.

Well that install finally failed and it restored the 10041 version. Yesterday, I tried it again and after another 4 plus hours it successfully installed 10049.

  3. Now this is why I prefer clean installs. Download took maybe 30 minutes, upgrade is at 30 % after 3 hours. *Sad I won't be doing this again anytime soon.

I wonder why some users have trouble doing the upgrade option and some don't. When I upgraded from 10041 to 10049 it too around a hour from download to installed and running. I would have done a clean install if I hadn't just done a clean install of 10041. I didn't feel like installing all my programs again.

I don't know either. I'm from the ones did an upgrade to 10041, but when I tried to upgrade to 10049 it just couldn't. I bet in Nvidia drivers but I'm not sure as I didn't think to uninstall the drivers and try again. We'll see next time.

I've pretty much got it narrowed down to one or more of these..............
    different operators
    different operating systems
    different machines
    different manufacturers
ones and zeros or zeros and ones
S-O-S or was it O-S-S............o SOSOSOS where to start?
    cross-linked files
    corrupted registry
    GPedit used by unlicensed person
downloaded leaked modified, adulterated registry, zipped with IZARC, unzipped with 7Z........
    bad drivers
    no drivers
    drivers from wrong manufacturer

check out those and I'll see if there is anything recent!

or as the guy being chased by a bear said to his hunting buddy as he passed him in a dead run........

Skin that one and I'll go get another one .....

I keep saying it everywhere here on this forum. It has a lot to do on how they are connected to the internet (wired or wireless) and connection speed. But of course, wired is the best way to go. I am thinking that the upgrade file is more than 1GB. It's the download part that is probably killing them.
Yesterday I've done a clean install (to get rid of my network issue) . I Downloaded 10041, installed it and upgraded to 10049. While the 10049 download is happening, I was installing the programs I need. There seems to be more download activities going on while it is installing ( while showing that circular progress bar).
In just over an hour, I am done. And network problem is gone.
    I'm a happy Win 10 user again.

Upgrade speed has a lot of factors...

    1) how large is your disk? How much stuff needs to be migrated?

    2) How many apps and programs have you installed and uninstalled?

    3) Yes, of course your network speed will have something to do with it, but only the initial download really.

    4) Do you have a bunch of junk in your profile? Including temp folders?

    5) How large is your System folder? WinSxS folder?

If you run disk cleanup first, that should probably speed things up... make sure you do a full cleanup of system files.

"Upgrade speed has a lot of factors..."

Another speed factor that's seldom considered is burn speed of your ISOs?
As burn speeds have increased I wonder how many ISOs have been burned at 52x and the user spent the weekend trying to install the new update and couldn't?

It's great to brag to the forum that you burned the new 2.5GB file to DVD in four minutes but it's not so great to spend a weekend to discover it's a bad burn.

I don't know what the max speeds are on any of my burners, and I've got a dozen or so kicking around, but I burn everything at 4x. Burning an ISO to disk is no time to rush.

  10. Haven't used a DVD to install Windows in years. I use USB thumb drives these days. Quicker to create and the installs are faster than doing it from optical media. A lot easier to do custom mods to to.

There's no such thing as a 52x DVD burner. 24x is pretty much the max. 52x is only for CD-R's. Any computer should be able handle 24x.
