Windows 10: file and printer sharing not staying turned on

Asked this one a while back and did some experimenting. The File and Printer sharing keeps resetting to off after turning it on. Refuses to stay on. Tried all suggestions that I was given on here. Nothing worked so dont resugest the same things again. As a last resort I decided to do a reset on the rig that had the fewest items that would be affected by the reset. That seemed to remedy the problem. I can now once again access all the computers on my network, except of course the other computer that is still experiencing the file and printer sharing problem. Doing a reset on THAT compute

Thank you for the update. What we can suggest now is to turn on File and Printer sharing in Command Prompt. Here are the steps to do it:

• Leave File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks turned
  on.
• Type CMD in the Search bar.
• Right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
• Type netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="File and Printer Sharing" new enable=Yes, and hit
  Enter.
• Exit from the command prompt, and check if it will work.

If issue persists, try turning it on using Powershell, and check if it works. Here are the steps:

• Leave File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks turned
  on.
• Type Powershell in the Search bar.
• Right-click on Windows PowerShell, and select
  Run as Administrator.
• Type netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="File and Printer Sharing" new enable=Yes, and hit
  Enter.
• Close PowerShell.

Let us know how it goes.

Hmmm... ooops I think that maybe I should have posted this in the Windows 7 Forum. I can copy and paste it there.

I just copied and posted it in the Win 7 Forum. Perhaps an Admin could delete this tread if it does not belong here.

I have temporarily found a solution. If I turned Firewall off, it would turn back on in a few seconds, also "File and Network Sharing" would not stay set to "ON" either in "Network and Sharing Center" or allowed in Firewall settings.

I opened "Services" and "Disabled" the Firewall. After doing a restart all Win 7 PC folders can be accessed from the Win 10 Laptop.

File and Printer Sharing won’t stay “turned On”

I can no longer connect to any drives on a Windows 7 PC from a Windows 10 Laptop. It has been OK for a year but recently the connections failed. There have been no changes to either that I know of nor has any software been installed.

The Win 7 permissions are “Everyone” has full permissions.

The Win 7 PC Firewall and found that “File and Printer Sharing” will not stay set.

The Win 7 Network and Sharing Center “File and Printer Sharing” will not stay set. Also Network Discovery is turned on.

The Win 7 Services are set as follows, a few were not started:
o Computer Browser - Automatic
o DHCP Client - Automatic
o DNS Client - Automatic
o Network Connections - Automatic
o Network Location Awareness - Automatic
o Remote Procedure Call (RPC) - Automatic
o Server - Automatic
o TCP/IP Netbios helper - Automatic
o Workstation – Automatic

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can fix this annoying issue? I am sure this has been discussed many time, but I cannot find a solution that works for me.

I can connect to a Win 7 Laptop from the Win 10 Laptop without any problems.
