Windows 10: "File and Printer Sharing" under Private network types on both Windows 10/11 keeps turning...

I'm reposting this question since it's been over 60 days since it was originally posted and the problem has gotten lost in the mix. It still exists and communication between all 6 of my computers is no longer possible. A little help would be appreciated. Linux is looking more and more attractive right now.....-Rick

Thank you for the update. What we can suggest now is to turn on File and Printer sharing in Command Prompt. Here are the steps to do it:

• Leave File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks turned
  on.
• Type CMD in the Search bar.
• Right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
• Type netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="File and Printer Sharing" new enable=Yes, and hit
  Enter.
• Exit from the command prompt, and check if it will work.

If issue persists, try turning it on using Powershell, and check if it works. Here are the steps:

• Leave File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks turned
  on.
• Type Powershell in the Search bar.
• Right-click on Windows PowerShell, and select
  Run as Administrator.
• Type netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="File and Printer Sharing" new enable=Yes, and hit
  Enter.
• Close PowerShell.

Let us know how it goes.

 

WINDOWS 10 FILE & PRINTER SHARING for private network cannot be turned on

Hi:

control panel\network and Sharing center\Advanced Sharing settings

i select

TURN ON FILE AND PRINTER SHARING for private network

and save changes.

but when I return to the page, the

TURN OFF FILE AND PRINTER SHARING is marked!!

has someone solved this before?

 

"File and Printer Sharing" under Private network on both Windows 10/11 keeps turning off on it's own

I have absolutely lost it with this damn problem. I've been trying for 3 days to figure out why BOTH windows 10 and windows 11 keep resetting the file and printer sharing option back to off under the private network settings after I turn them on and then exit out of the setup and resets to off. Due to this happening I'm unable to access ANY of my 6 computers. This has started happening in the last 2 weeks or so. Before the standard cut-and-paste responses start let me say I've gone through every link I've seen. Here's what I've done:

Checked all the services are running

All computers are on the same workgroup

All the computers are on the same network

4 of the 6 are wired, one is wireless

1 is a PC-to-PC connection via a crossover cable (which will also not communicate, btw)

File and Printer Sharing rules in the firewall are all set to allow and active although that shouldn't matter since the firewall is turned off

Running ESET AV but makes no difference if on or off. Worked fine 2 weeks ago

IPs are fixed so it's not an IP collision

I can ping each of these computers via the command-prompt so it's not a network cabling problem

Without the ability to turn on the file/printer sharing there is no way for me to access any of these computers. What did Microsoft do to the sharing on this last update for 10 and 11? They sure broke something. Anyone have any suggestions on this?
