Windows 10: File back-up issues: files in complete disarray

Apologies for the sort of vague title, I have no idea how to summarise this issue.I'm moving to a new laptop Windows 11, 2022/3, and just started moving files over from my old PC Windows 8.1, 2015. On the PC, I was using file backup to save a backup of my PC to an external harddrive, I was doing it realtively regularly to preserve my data in the event of an issue with my PC, and did it again just before trying to transfer the files over. For some reason, quite a lot of the files have been duplicated, which is easiest to see as images because there's at least two or three of every image fil

Complete file destruction

Shredding a file with multiple passes helps greatly, but there's an issue with metadata,swap file, etc etc all; the random little files windows creates in order to operate.

im looking for a way to destroy a file in its entirety, all traces of what it once could of been.

 

Corrupted file RAR

If the archive has been created using WinRAR, why don't you try WinRAR itself? It has a built-in repair feature for repairing corrupted archive (ZIP as well as RAR). Follow the steps given below:

• Open WinRAR application in your system.
• Now click on File tab > Open or simply press Ctrl+O.
• A small window "Find Archive" will pop up. Locate the corrupt RAR archive from your system directory and select it.
• Now click Open button.
• Click Tools tab > Repair archive or simply press Alt+R.
• Again a small window "Repairing File name.rar" will pop up.
• Now click Browse to select a location to save the repaired archive.
• Check the box "Treat the corrupt archive as RAR" and click OK.
• WinRAR will start repairing of corrupt RAR archive. Once it gets completed click Close.

I hope the above steps will help you repair the corrupted RAR archive.
