File deletion with skipping Recycle Bin didn't free up disk space, but did increased $BadClus

System: Windows 11, externally mounted 8TB WD disk NTFSUsed TreeSize Duplicate Search Jam Software, then deleted some files with the option "Move to Recycle Bin if available" turned off one file was almost 1TB, but I didn't get the disk space back recycle bin is empty. Total drive size is 7,27TB, but there's only files for 5,4TB.Then used TreeSize with "Track advanced file system features" option and I can see metafile $BadClus being 2,5TB which would account for the missing space. Then did chkdsk /x /b to see if chkdsk could find/fix bad clusters, but it found 0KB in bad sectors. recycle bin

    Hi George,

To prevent your files from being deleted from the Recycle Bin, we suggest increasing the maximum file size your Recycle Bin can keep by following the steps below:

    • Right click on the Recycle Bin icon.
    • Under the Settings for selected location, select Custom size.
    • Fill up the box for your allotted maximum file size for your Recycle Bin.
Let us know if you need further assistance.

  3. My Windows 10 recycle bin gets emptied periodically (not daily, just in hours) without my telling it to empty.

    Hi Robert,

I would be happy to assist you. And I regret the inconvenience you are facing with Windows 10.

I would like to know whether made any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

The Recycle Bin is normally allocated 10% the hard drive space. If Recycle Bin gets full, Windows automatically deletes some older files from the Recycle Bin to make space for the newly deleted items. You can increase the
size of the Recycle Bin to fix this problem.

Firstly, I suggest you to check for the Hard disk space by using the steps below. As the first step let's find out the hard disc space.

    • Click on Start and open
      Computer
    • Locate your hard drive. This will denoted as
Local Disk (C File deletion with skipping Recycle Bin didn't free up disk space, but did increased $BadClus :) on most computers. Note that if you have a second hard drive, you can use these steps to check both of them individually
    • Right-click on your hard drive icon and select "Properties". This will open a window that displays all the information that you need about your hard disk along with a pie chart illustration.
    • Look at your hard disk space. This will not only be listed in the properties dialog, but also demonstrated in the pie chart (usually by the color pink).
It could be possible that the recycle bin is corrupted. Follow these steps to fix it.

The steps below automatically creates a new clean Recycle Bin that will work properly again.

Note: This will permanently delete all files in the Recycle Bin for all user accounts on the computer.

    • Go to start and type “cmd” without the quotes.

    • Right-click on cmd and select “Run as administrator”. This opens elevated command prompt.

    • In the elevated command prompt, type “rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin” without the quotes and press Enter.
NOTE: For the other hard drive letters, substitute C: for the other hard drive letter instead. For example: rd /s /q E:\$Recycle.bin

    • Close command prompt window.

    • Right click on an empty area of the desktop and click on Refresh.

    • The Recycle Bin should be empty now. If not, then repeat these steps for any other hard drive letter that you have
I hope the above information helps. Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

  4. File deletion with skipping Recycle Bin didn't free up disk space, but did increased $BadClus

Enabling Recycle Bin for a SD Card

    Hello, welcome to our community.

Try disabling a function in the recycle bin properties, to do this follow these steps:

    • Right click on the Recycle Bin and then click on "Properties".
    • Select the disk you want, and then disable the option "Don't move files to Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted".
    • Click apply, restart your laptop and see if it worked.
If that doesn't work, let me know and I will give you more solutions on how to resolve this.
