Have purchased a new laptop and want to transfer all my files across but don't want the mess I currently have. That was my fault, trying to stop One Drive automatically backing up everything laptop fan was always on overdrive! but I think I totally stuffed up this process and now some files were backed up by OneDrive in 2020 and my "Documents" folder the parent - well, the icon is not a folder but shows as a file I think this is part of the problem - but this is where the majority of my files 47.5GB are stored. I have a Seagate back up drive and their support is struggling to help me

    :)

File Explorer has become a real mess

File Explorer, in the last few days, has become a real mess on my computers. (My Documents resides on a network drive, a D-Link DNS-323, which is mapped to the computer, and has been ever since the July release.)

    1. Sometimes it takes File Explorer 4 or 5 minutes to allow access to My Documents.
    a. I can expand My Documents in the left panel.
    b. None of the sub-folders will expand in the left panel, the arrows to expand them are not present.
    c. Clicking on one of the sub-folders does not expand it in the right panel.

i.e. nothing works beyond expanding My Documents in the left panel until W10 gets its act in gear and decides to let me.

    2. I can click on the mapped network drive which contains My Documents.
    a. My Documents will expand in the left panel.
    b. All sub-folders will expand in the left panel.
    c. Clicking on one of the sub-folders will expand it in the right panel.

i.e. at the mapped drive level, everything works fine. Conclusion: Do that. Problem: I shouldn't have to.

    3. And then, there is frequently this.

File Explorer a mess. Seagate hub won't back up my parent folder and One Drive a mess also.... [IMG]

    a. How many inaccessible copies of My Documents do I need? (Note, there are three this time, but it varies. I have seen as many as 5)
    b. The sub-folder which is actually expanded on the right does not appear in the list on the left. (It belongs between # Correspondence and # Finance, of course.)

    4. And this:

    Attachment 52135
My flash drive on drive F: shows up twice. Once as a device under Computer, once kind of in a world of its own at the same level as my network.

Have I done any of this, or has MS done it to me?

  3. External Seagate Drive not appearing after Creators Update

We appreciate the feedback, Pete. Getting in touch with Seagate support is one of your options. They may have recent or updated drivers for your external hard drive. In the meantime, since the hard drive is detected again when you unplug and replug it, we
suggest that you try changing the drive letter and its path and see if it addresses the issue. Follow the steps below:

    • Right-click the Windows key and click Computer Management.
    • Under Storage, click Disk Management.
    • Find your Seagate External Hard Drive, right-click it and select
      Change Drive Letter and Paths
      .
    • Click on Change and select the letter for the drive.
    • Click OK, close all windows, then restart your computer.

Should the issue persists, then we suggest sharing your experience with us through our Feedback Hub. To access the Feedback Hub, follow the steps below:

    • Click the Windows key.
    • Look for Feedback Hub, then click it.
    • In the left pane, click Feedback.
Let us know should you need further help.

    Regards.

    Regards.

File Explorer a mess. Seagate hub won't back up my parent folder and One Drive a mess also....

User shell folders messed up after using move location tab on 3D Objects folder. DaveM121 please help!

    Hi hiltonkirk

Wow, that is a right mess.

    1

Did you try to move your actual user folder to the E drive or just the Library folders?

    2

Where do you ultimately want your user folders to be, is that back on the C drive or on the E drive

    3

For each of the library folders (Documents, pictures, Videos, Desktop...etc.) in File Explorer, right click each folder and select Properties

Please list the currently reported location of those folders here.
