Windows 10: file explorer crashes when i double click on documents and pictures I have copied over from...

I having just bought a new PC and transferred all of my documents and pictures over by copying them onto an external hard drive, and then copying them onto my new pc. However when I now try to double click on the documents or pictures file explorer pauses before it crashes and takes me back to the home screen. If I re-name the documents and images then they will open when i double click them. Why is this and how do I over come this without having to re name all of my documents???

Double Document Files

I just discovered that, In transferring files from an old laptop to new, I inadvertently copied My Documents twice. I now have a folder entitled "Documents" within my primary Documents folder, containing 216 GB of mostly duplicate folders, word docs, and
images. I'd just delete that second folder except that some recent work may have been saved to it, rather than into the primary documents file.

Thinking that I could simply compare a list of files in the second folder with those in the first and delete the duplicates, I tried to print a list of the files. No print command or function was available. I then tried turning a small portion of that
second file into a list and then copying it, but when I tried to paste same into a word doc for copying

, the paste function was refused.

Any suggestions as to how I can eliminate this second folder while retaining what recent non-duplicate work within?

If no answers for that, how can a print a list of files in a My Docs folder?

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit

 

File Explorer crashes on Quick Access Recent files item

Hi Loreto,

Clearing recent files does indeed allow File Explorer to open but my client did as I suggested and left recent files turned off for a few days and then turned it back on. It worked for a while but then started crashing again.

Two users at the same site have now reported the same problem which suggests it's not an individual user doing something unusual. It is very possible that they are working on the same documents in the same project.

The kind of documents in there will be:

• Documents opened directly from SharePoint
• Documents opened from File Explorer viewing a SharePoint document library
• Documents opened from File Explorer using a mapped drive to a SharePoint document library
• Documents opened from Office 365 OneDrive

It's definitely a bug! Some threads have suggested bizarrely that it's linked to screen scaling?? And they do have a monitor and laptop screen with different scaling.

Clear the 'cache' in file explorer for already used picture tags?


If you set some tags for your *.jpg pictures, the windows 10 file explorer shows them in the "details pane" on the right side.





This list can get very long and with some wrong or no longer used entries.
How can I clear this list / cache / suggestions?

Or how can I stop the file explorer to suggests already used Tags?
