Windows 10: File Explorer crashing.

Rundown of issues I'm having:

• When I open File Explorer from my Windows taskbar it opens, but will say "Working on it..." and will proceed to not load for as long as I wait. This happens most times
• Sometimes when I do get File Explorer to load, it will display everything under my 'quick access' tab but all the icons will be missing and the the toolbar on the right is also missing.
• When I right click on something on my desktop to bring up the quick bar, it will load for approx. 5-10 seconds, then proceed to crash my desktop. this applies to all folders, files, and applications on my desktop.
• If I'm able to open a folder on my desktop and view the files inside, the green loading bar at the top will load for an eternity only for it to crash when ever I decide to click one of the files.

Extra Notes:

• I have down the SFC scan to detect if it is caused by a corrupt file, and I have also done a virus check via the Windows Firewall -- both have come up empty handed.
• I have Microsoft Windows 10 Home
• My Version: 10.0.19042 Build 19042 -- up to date, made sure before coming here.

Effective Way to Solve the File Explorer Crashes Issue

You can try the following steps:

1. Tap down the Windows button first to activate the search bar.
2. After that, in the search bar type control, and then click on the top-most search result, that is on Control Panel.
3. Next, in the search bar type file.
4. Now, from the search results click on File Explorer Options.
5. Then, click on the Clean button.
6. Lastly, click on Apply and then on OK.

File explorer keeps crashing in Win 10

Hello,

I did the steps you wrote. All the settings were as you suggested. The File Explorer keeps crashing.

thats wierd... iv never had a large file crash explorer before....


and i have files ranging upto 80GB...
