Windows 10: file explorer date created vs media created

So I have some recent downloads on my laptop in file explorer and I am looking at ways to sort them and I have the options including 'Date Created' & 'Media Created'.What is the difference, as alternating between these two does give different orders but not sure what data it is working on to do this.Note: This is not a date created vs date modified situation. Nor is it sorting them in order of download to my local drive like it does when just selecting the word 'Date' on its own; so what is the difference between 'Date Created' & 'Media Created', so that I can sort these files by the c

File Explorer Date Created and Modified not always correct

The File Explorer may have encountered a system conflict that caused this issue. For us to start with initial troubleshooting, we'd like to know more information, kindly answer the following questions:

• Which build and version of Windows 10 do you have?
• In File Explorer, what does it indicate in the Date column? Does it show Date Modified or Date Created? (right click the Date Modified section at the top, which are the ones that has a checkmark?)
• Which troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

file explorer shows created date not updated date.

Today, I went to Microsoft file explorer and sorted a list of files by date.

Imagine my horror when I saw that they were all old files.

In fact, the problem is that the date displayed is created date, and not updated date.

This is the first time that I have observed this - it has worked OK in the past.

 

Incorrect "Date Created dates" in File Explorer.

Regarding "Date Created dates". I took about 800 photographs in June 2023 using both a Panasonic camera and a Samsung S6 phone. On sorting through these photographs recently, I found that the "Date Created" date had changed on over half these photographs.. This is occurring to both photos taken with the camera and the mobile phone. I have stated using some software to correct these dates but it is very laborious when several hundred photos are involved. What I want to know is why is the "Date Created" changing? To my way of thinking, this shouldn't happen. I am using Windows 11. The "Date Created" is correct on Picasa but incorrect on File Explorer. The problem is illustated by the screen shot from Picasa which has the correct "Date Created date and that from File Explorer which shows an incorrect date and the screen shot from File Explorer showing the list of photos - all the photographs were taken prior to or on 2nd July.
