Windows 10: File Explorer fails to start

    File Explorer fails to start


    I am running Windows 11 22H2.This started in the last week. The first occurrence I can find is 15/09/2023 10:29:15. There were some Quality Updates on 13/09/2023.When starting File Explorer it looks as though it is loading but bails out and removes all other instances of Explorer. The task bar also briefly disappears. This does not happen every time and it usually starts OK when I try it again.Event Viewer behaves similarly with the task bar briefly disappearing. It generally starts OK at the second attempt.For Explorer, the Event Viewer shows:Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version:

    File explorer icon from taskbar dissappears while working on it

    Hi,

    To assist you with your concern, we suggest you pin the File Explorer from the Start Menu by following these steps:

    • Click the Start Menu.
    • Right-click File Explorer.
    • Choose Pin to taskbar.

    File explorer fails to acitvate

    Windows File Explorer fails to activate sometimes. I am using Windows 10. This is a recent problem, started about 1 month ago.

    Suggestions most welcome!

    How old is your HDD?

    If it is starting to fail (e.g. developing dodgy blocks/sectors) you can experience long delays when you try to access files on it.

    Regardless of its age, I would suggest that you immediately backup your:
    • Personal files
    • Driver installers
    • Program installers and keys
