Windows 10: File explorer Folder templates stuck to general items on "D:" hard drive

Problem Summary: I'm unable to change folder templates in File Explorer from "General items" to any of the other four templates Documents, Music, Pictures, or Videos on folders stored in "d" hard drive. This problem has been happening for like 4 or 5 months and i haven't been able to fix it.Detailed Description: Whenever I attempt to change a folder's template by going to properties>customize, it doesn't take effect. unless I manually switch the view and columns and sort by. This change only applies to one folder at a time. Manually repeating this process for each folder is not a viable s

How to restore Desktop folder to General Items template?

The .bat in step 3 of Option Two will only change the template to "General items" for a details view of all folders, but you can also use the tutorial below to apply a specific folder view (ex: columns) to all folders afterwards.

I showed you the principle of a method that will do what you wish. To apply it to any folder structure you need to understand how it works.

• In my shortcut I defined the "Start in" folder as %CD%. This means that the shortcut must use the
  current folder as its base. In my example this was C:\Templates\Template1\TestA.
• For the shortcut I used this command line:
  
  explorer.exe ..\TestB\Target
  
  What exactly does this do? Here is the explanation:
  
  1. "..\" tells Explorer to step on up in the directory tree:
  
  C:\Templates\Template1\TestA -> C:\Templates\Template1
  
  2. "TestB" tells Explorer to steop one down in the directory tree:
  
  C:\Templates\Template1 -> C:\Templates\Template1\TestB
  
  3. "Target" tells Explorer to open the file or folder "Target".

Applying this knowledge, you could create a shortcut that makes Explorer step up two folders:

Explorer.exe ..\..\Template2\TestB\Target

C:\Templates\Template1\TestA

-> C:\Templates\Template1

-> C:\Templates

-> C:\Templates\Template2

-> C:\Templates\Template1\TestB

-> Open "Target"

Armed with this knowledge you can now fix your shortcut yourself.

If you want to change the settings of folder view to General items on Windows Explorer, you will need to manually change the settings of every folder one by one. Please follow the steps below on how:

• Go to Windows File explorer.
• Right-click on the first folder you want to change.
• Select Properties.
• Choose Customize.
• Click on drop down option and select General items.
• Click on Also apply this template to all subfolders.
• Click Apply.
