Windows 10: File Explorer - how to go to REAL parent folder : Documents, pictures, etc ?

It seems like file explorer is moving towards the opposite whatit has alwas been : technical.Before, when in a folder located in C:>use>username>whatever , clicking the parent folder arrow would move back to the username folder. But instead now it is moving to desktop, why?Also, when clicking on documents or download, folders don't expand to the actual location of this folder and I would it to, how change I change that?Finally the same problem occurs in the acces bar, the real location of the folder don't show up, how can I change that?Thanks

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.



We understand that you are experiencing a folder path display exception.



To explain, the folders you see in the list on the left side of your computer's File Explorer, such as Documents, Pictures, etc., are shortcuts created by the system in order to get to these folders faster.



The real paths of these entries are hidden.



If you enter from C:>use>username, you will be able to see the actual folder path.



However, after our tests, if you un-fix the original folder in Quick Access and fix the folder from the real path to Quick Access, but you enter through Quick Access again, the path is still hidden. This is by design.

FILE EXPLORER DOCUMENT AND PICTURES

All of the options, such as "Always show icons, never thumbnails", are global settings. They are not context sensitive.

To have thumbnails in the Pictures folder but not in the Documents folder will require using a view for Documents that does not show thumbnails, such as Details, List, or Small Icons. Sorry, that's a limitation of Explorer.
