Windows 10: file explorer icon missing

My file explorer icon is missing. Now the only way I can access File Explorer is to open Task Manager,"open file right click on File Explorer and select open file location. When I go to the folder I want and try select "show more options" I am brought back to the previous page I was on. I can not create new folder, rename or any of the normal functions of "show more options". I got some suggestions from another post but none of it helped and now I can't get anymore help.

Cannot find Desktop Icon in File Explorer

Now that is interesting. If I do what you suggest, File Explorer Address bar changes to C:\Users\username\documents and the missing ICONS are there. But there is still not a "Desktop" folder.

Is this a step in the right direction?

One of the reasons why your applications is missing due to a corrupted system files. Have you tried running SFC
scan? If not, we suggest that you run SFC scan to check and fix any system files that has been corrupted. To do so, please follow these steps:

• 
  Run
  Command Prompt as Administrator.
  
• 
  Type
  sfc /scannow
  and hit
  Enter.

File explorer icon from taskbar dissappears while working on it

To assist you with your concern, we suggest you pin the File Explorer from the Start Menu by following these steps:

• Click the Start Menu.
• Right-click File Explorer.
• Choose Pin to taskbar.
