Windows 10: File Explorer keeps crashing/restarting/flickering

If you create new user profile,it will be fixed, and it may occur again. So when it eventually happened again , I backed up the registry and the new user profile CLEAN. Then I copy my old user profile files just without the "ntuser" files. If you want to back up those in your new profile you have to do it running under Linux live usb in order not to mess with permissions (which I did and still I got a message that the files cannot be even copied because they're in use).

FWIW, it turns out my problem was related to installing a second hard drive. I'd replaced a slower 3TB drive with a faster 6TB drive, and Windows 10 didn't seem to adjust to the new install very well. I ended up reinstalling Windows 10 and everything has been perfect since.

 

I work for a massive company and am still waiting for IT to get back to me but unfortunately I'm locked down from doing a lot of this due to GPO. Even if I wanted to re-install Windows I'd have to ship my laptop as I work remote. Ugh. Miss the days when I was the system admin and had GOD mode to all systems lol...*sigh*

 

This problem is a big issue. Something (I wonder what), changes the permissions maybe? I can't fix them without making new user account, i don't know how, and everything I tried , failed. This was fixed from December (last time saw it), and now I was forced to format and do a completely fresh installation , due to this problem.
I even changed my windows 10 key, bought a new one , as the one I was using, was from eBay and had problems with it.
Hope this won't happen again. It's totally frustrating.

No matter, I just got a new laptop yesterday actually. But I dealt with the issue until yesterday haha.

Kill two birds with one stone lol. But now I'm missing my SSD *Sad...can't win lol.

 

That worries me the most... I begin to believe that maybe there's a defect, but then again...which is it??? Everything turn out to be normal (memory testing, cpu stressing, I recently changed my PSU etc etc)...

I wait for spring update to see if this goes away, and if it is not, I will make a new , fresh install from a new ISO, made by a different PC, my mind went THAT far *Tongue

 

Hello again. The problem re-appeared... I start to think that, windows, for some unknown reason, removes or misses admin priveleges from each FOLDER. I cannot be sure, but trying to kill explorer.exe process, and restarting it as admin, it does not solve the issue BUT, the first file I open, doesn't cause the explorer crash. AFTER I click on a different folder, the same issue appears. The explorer opens in a second instance, and it crashes even if I copy something. It has been 11 months I didn't have this problem, and now again, I have.
It is so frustrating. The most frustrating is that MS seems to know it but doing absolutely nothing about it.

I am curious, if some piece of hw in combination with sw, causes the problem. I have pending bios update (since forever), and I am willing to try it out, as soon as "sping update" comes out.
My girlfriend's PC is almost the same (not the same though), and runs windows 10 from 2016 without any problems...

I just can't understand what the hell is this all about..

 

Just for S&G's and posterity I guess...I haven't had the issue since getting my new work hardware and I've never had the issue on my personal PC which is running W10.

 

Since File Explorer [and the previous Windows Explorer] is pretty much the core of Windows and the Desktop/screen is Dynamic [always being refreshed], there are times when things running in the background can make changes which in turn redraws the screen. Such things are hard to narrow down and can cause crashes.
