Windows 10: File Explorer - MP3s Files

After the auto update to Win10 1909, I noticed the File Explorer freezes up when an MP3 file is selected. The folder has a mix of JPGs and MP3s. When a JPG is selected there are no freezing up issues. I am also able to edit the JPG meta data. It's only when an MP3 file is selected that File Explorer freezes up. I own several hundred CDs which I've ripped onto my desktop for listening convenience. When I select the folder of a particular artist, the MP3 file names disappears sequentially top - down then reappears. And of course, when an MP3 file is selected, File Explorer freezes up. I'm still able to open other apps so Windows itself is still active. I cannot move the File Explorer dialogue box, until, I open another File Explorer instance. But once I select an MP3 file, that File Explorer instance freezes up again.


Is this caused by the latest Windows updates?

Here is a mp3 file with just Title (Concerto Gregoriano) and Composer in its metadata.
1. In file explorer, I created a new file on my desktop and copied the mp3 file to it.
As you can see, it is listed with date, size. The folder is a general format type, not music.
Please try that.

2. To the right, mp3tag, a free utility, shows the metadata in the file.
You might find it useful to get mp3tag.
3. Rt click, Properties, Details, shows the Title as part of the metadata. (Composer is off the screen).

I suggest you make sure your mp3's do indeed contain metadata.

(Sorry the Window titles are faint- they are background, but should be clearer)

If you want to clean install, then presumably that will solve your problem.

If, however, you have a Windows installation you want to keep that is not showing metadata as you have shown then do youo have Office 365 installed?
File Explorer fails to show metadata?

I would suggest it's a problem caused by some other program you have installed.

If you've not tried it, run
SFC /SCANNOW
from an admin command or Powershell prompt.

 

jpg's and mp3's not grouping correctly in File Explorer

The other issue is that some software sorts files using the other method.

If you have a lot of images you need to use multiple digits for all files (e.g. image001 ... image010 ... image100, etc.) otherwise the display order will be messed up.
Using multiple digits will ensure that they are displayed/listed the same in File Explorer and programs.

For folders, I use a numeric prefix to list them in a specific order.
