Windows 10: File Explorer Navigation Pane Icons have changed

Hello. First time participating here. I asked this question a while ago on the HP community and the Ten Forums. Although suggestions were offered, the problem persists.

I cannot give an exact date, but at some point my File Explorer Navigation Pane Icons changed from the default icons left tofolder icons with the icon 'overlays' right




Brief history:

I have had my HP Spectre x360 4K display for about 8 weeks. Specifications listed at bottom

• Initial file transfer was done using Windows 7 Easy Transfer migwiz which I have used on other machines without incident.
• Using the advanced selection; no settings were transferred, just Documents, Pictures, Music, Video.
• I do not use any outside themes; just tried a few of the built-in HP themes; then reverted back to the default.
• I have gone so far as to try overriding the current icons using the registry modifications mentioned in this Ten Forums post:

• When I tried those suggestions the only change which occurred was that the unique icon picture was removed and only the plain folder icon remained. Yet the registry entries mentioned in the “Change Icons of Folders in This PC for All Users” appear to be correct
• There are no “exotic” programs on the computer – just Office 365, Adobe Photoshop/Premiere elements, Bootstrap Studio, Inkscape, etc.
• As recommended on the Ten Forums I checked the desktop.ini for each and they match up with other computers I have.

Purchased at the same time was an HP Envy x360 laptop which is almost identical in specifications except it has a regular Full HD touchscreen 1920x1080. The Navigation Pane icons there remain as expected as shown in the first screenshot.


Any ideas what may have caused this and any suggestions how to get the default icons back?

• HP Spectre x360 15.6
• 4K UHD display
• 10th gen i7
• 16 GB RAM
• Nvidia graphics
• 512 SSD
• AV: Windows Security, Malwarebytes on demand

File Explorer Navigation Pane Default Icons Have Changed

When you navigate to the actual folder location (C:\Users\<UserName> or C:\Users\<UserName>\OneDrive unless you've redirectred them), Do they display thier custom icons in the Content pane?

Is there a way to increase in file explorer, the navigation pane fonts and icons? The right side where it the list of drives, libraries, quick access, etc. is.
