Windows 10: File Explorer not displaying networked computer initially but can access it by other means...

I have a laptop running Win 10 Home that doesn't display a networked Win 10 Pro desktop computer under Network in file explorer. The desktop has various shares folders and a printer set up. On the laptop the shared printer does appear in Devices, Printers and scanners and I can print to it so it knows the networked desktop exists. I can also map to one of the shared folders under This PC. I can then open that folder and see what is in it. Then if I then click on the parent which is the desktop computer name in the path, the desktop magically appears under Network and when opened displays a

:)

 

One computer cannot access other network computers.


So I've tried every troubleshooting step I know:

• Double checked that Net Bios was enabled
• Ran a bunch of network commands:
  • flushed DNS
  • registered dns
  • pinged and located the named computers successfully
• Reset my router to factory settings

Nothing works when I try to access via explorer. I'm still baffled by the fact that every other computer can access each other AND access this computer. It's just the outgoing connection from this machine that doesn't work.

Any thoughts?

 

My computer's name is not displayed in file explorer Network group.

My computer's name (Office) does not appear in the local Network list.
It does appear on other computer's (XPS-Club) Network list.
Office is primary system in my profile.
XPS-Club is second system in my profile.

If I type \\Office in the Network Address bar, the name and associated shares is displayed in the local list.
However, the information is only shown for the current file explorer session.

Upon reviewing my original post, I realized I really hadn't asked for help. I know there are many threads similar to mine, both on this forum and in many other forums on the internet, but I have yet to find a solution for my particular situation.

So, I am asking the members of this forum for assistance in getting my Office computer to display itself in its own network group.

 

Windows 7 File Sharing between computers, PROBLEMS!!

Just do a file transfer in explorer from one computer to the other and see what speed you get. I would suggest avoiding homegroup and using a proper network setup instead.
