Windows 10: File Explorer Opening Randomly and Frequently

Title says it all. I was playing a game the other day when I noticed that there were no borders, so my mouse cursor would go to my second monitor while I was playing. This could be unrelated, but I thought it started happening after this, and it might have been caused by me pressing certain keys while on my desktop.


I've done a thorough virus scan, nothing. I've cleaned out my registries, and I've done sfc /scannow. Nothing. It continues to happen at seemingly random intervals. Sometimes I'll have 20 open in 15 minutes, sometimes I'll have just 3 in the period of an hour. It's annoying especially since it will pop up in front of what I'm doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

After a recent automatic update, Windows File Explorer opens randomly and continuously. Windows 10 OS. Any help?

I can imagine a keyboard (or programmable mouse) malfunction being behind that symptom. Try detaching your keyboard (after bringing up the OSK.exe to use with either a mouse, Touch, or pen). Note that that would only be a diagnostic step to try to isolate
the problem cause. Fixing it would then involve doing something to change how your keyboard was being used.
