Windows 10: File Explorer or Taskbar keep crashing

After one of countless updates my PC is having problems. If I click an open file folder, or group of file folders on the taskbar, my screen goes black. Then, desktop restarts. My open programs are restored after this failure. Any open folders are closed. Also closed are any file transfers between drives or PCs on my network. And if I am compressing files, either locally or on the network, if the task originated on my Win 10 PC, those tasks also fail, then close. To be clear. And this is not the only cause, just the one cause that works every time. I click on a folder or groups of folders and my screen goes black. Any background programs centered around file explorer close. ie file tx's, view properties, compress files or folders will fail, close and not restart when the taskbar, background restart. Any open programs are left as they were before the crash. I don't know if I can be any more descriptive.

• Click the Start Menu.
• Right-click File Explorer.
• Choose Pin to taskbar.

Cannot launch File Explorer from taskbar in Windows 10

• First unpin the File Explorer from the task bar.
• Press Windows + E.
• And right click on File Explorer in the taskbar.
• And Pin the File Explorer to Taskbar and Check if it helps.

File Explorer crashing in Windows 10

What steps can I take to sort this out?

File explorer won't open from the taskbar or from windows search. When I do get file explorer to open (using dropbox app), file explorer crashes quickly.
