Windows 10: File Explorer saying "File is live in Movie Maker" when it isn't?

I've been editing a trailer in Movie Maker for a couple days now, and I had downloaded a YouTube video to use in it for footage, but I decided that I didn't need it anymore. I had inserted it into Movie Maker and then removed it. I'm trying to delete the file from File Explorer, but it keeps saying "File is live in Movie Maker" when I had removed it! I did cut it to the clipboard, but then I pasted it, and I just recently cut another clip from a different video to the clipboard, so I don't know how the file could be in Movie Maker! Is there any way I could fix this?

Windows Movie Maker not recognizing .avi files

We would suggest you to repair the Windows Live Movie Maker and check.

Follow the below steps to repair Windows Live Movie Maker.

• Type appwiz.cpl in the search box and hit Enter.
• Right click Windows Essentials 2012 and select repair.

Thanks for quick reply. I tried the compatibility route you suggested BUT the pull-down menu does not list Window10. The list stops at Windows8.

Do you have any answers for my other questions like: Is there a file size limit Movie Maker Live can handle? If there was a limit I would expect Movie Maker Live to warn the Use that the limit had been reached and what can be done to continue to compile
the video.

File explorer freezes and Movie maker will not import .avi files

Thank you for posting in Community, I understand your concern and we will try to assist you in the best way we can.

With respect to the issue related to File Explorer, I suggest that you perform the steps mentioned below and check if it still freezes.

• Go to task manager. (To open press ctrl+alt+delete)
• Click on Details, select explorer.exe
  and click End Task.
• Go to file, located on the top left corner of task manager and select
  Run New Task
• Type explorer.exe and click on OK.

With respect to the issue with Movie Maker, I would like you to provide the information stated below:

Did you receive the .avi file or is it locally stored in your system?

I would suggest that you try to import the file to another software similar to Movie Maker so that we can know if the issue is with the file or the program itself. Also try to import another .avi file and check if you get the same error message
