Windows 10: File explorer slow to open, Windows apps have no app associated.

Hi! I've had this issue ever since I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10, but I never found a solution.The issue is that when I boot my pc, there's a ~50% chance something will be 'wrong'. And when it goes wrong, it's always these two things:1. Windows apps like settings have no app associated and therefore cannot open. I can't change the app association because the Default Settings Page won't open.2. Anything that has to do with the file explorer takes forever to open. At first glance it seems like nothing is happening when I click the file explorer. No indication that anything is loading, no e

I think it's the extra steps that he doesn't like. But that should also work.

 

Removing File Association that opens file with specific app

How do I reset a file to its original file association (in this case "NO ASSOCIATION")?

• I mistakenly tried to open a ".pieceshash" file [ b4ec92e20ca80c0524198cc75cededf138401f97.pieceshash ] and
• chose to open it with IE (with the check box set to always open with this app).

Now I cannot remove the file association. Please Help. Thanks

 

Associate/Open files with portable apps : still not possible?

I've done this on Windows 10 recently, as I associated the portable version of Irfanview as my image viewer for certain image file types.

In File Explorer, right-click your file, then go to Open with, then select "Choose another app". You then have to click near the bottom of the dialogue box (scroll if need be) and choose "More apps". Then scroll to the bottom of the box that comes up and choose "Look for another app on this PC". This will open up a file chooser, so go and find the executable of your portable app and select. Then click the box that has "Always use this app to open *** files" (*** being the file extension). The application should be associated with the file type.
