File Explorer slow when backup hard drive online

All three of the main drives in my computer are SSD, but I recently purchased an external 14 TB BestBuy EasyStore hard drive WD rebrand for backups with EaseUS.Windows File Explorer takes 15 seconds or more to open while the backup drive spins up from sleep. If the backup drive is currently "awake", or if it is unplugged from the computer, File Explorer opens instantly. But this very slow wake up probably happens half a dozen times a day when I open file explorer, which is becoming very frustrating.Any ideas on how to fix this, or keep the hard drive from waking up unless I am actually acces

    Free hard drive backup/restore program?

I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

Using network hard drive for backup

It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

Download Back Up Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks

and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

    External Hard Drive

    Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
    • Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.
The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Let us know if you need further help.
