  1. File Explorer - stick to standard view options

In Windows 10 File Explorer, I'm used to the Details View usual format with columns Name, Type, Date Created, Date Modified, Size, etc. But anytime a folder contains media files like audio or video, I get only columns like Album, Title, Contributing Artists, etc., when I need the standard format with Date, Size, and so on. Often I end up laboriously changing the columns one at a time. I have tried the Folder Options dialog "Apply this view to all folders of this type, but it doesn't help I think it changes the View - Details, Icons, etc. - but not the format. How can I make all folders look

    :)

    file explorer view options

    Hi Anna

At the top of Explorer, do you not see the View Ribbon, and if that is not expanded, if you double click that is should stay expanded

Another option, in Files Explorer is, navigate to a folder, then press Ctrl and scroll up or down, that will work the view through all options (List, Details, Small Icons, Large Icons . . etc.)

View>list folder option doesn't stick to all folders

In a folder, when I do View>list and then in Options apply that to all folders, it often doesn't stick, i.e some sub folders under that folder show the details view. Any suggestions?

In fact it looks like all new folders are defaulting to details view.

Thank you for the detailed response. To change the search result's view from content to list, we suggest following the steps below:

    • Open the File Explorer and try to search for files.
    • In the toolbar, open the View tab and click List
      to change the view.
    • Once changed, close the File Explorer.
    • Open the File Explorer again and try to search to see if the setting has been retained.
