File Explorer / Taskbar question [IMG]

On my Windows 10 desktop machine, when I click the pinned File Explorer icon on the taskbar, it opens a new instance of itself represented by a second taskbar icon on the far right as per the image.

    https://preview.redd.it/l9pi44wt35z...bp&s=a799f11798c1825920b300ebe74e91241b742eb5

If I open another Explorer window - either by clicking the original pinned File Explorer icon, or double clicking a folder icon on the desktop, or by using Win key + E - the resulting window's icon is grouped with the File Explorer icon on the far right.

My question is - what setting controls this behavior, as I would like my Win 10 laptop to behave like this as well? Or is this just some weird and freaky Windows bug??
