Windows 10: File Explorer 'Users' name and Computer Login Page Different Names

Hi there,So recently I was using Visual Studio Code, and when I ran my code, I saw this. I didn't like how my user was "14086" which is the first numbers of my phone number. I did register using my phone number but, when I tried editing the values using the registry editor and changed my "14086" to kevin and rebooted my computer, the computer logged me into a temporary account saying they can't log me into my main account??They told me it should get fixed if I sign out and sign back in, but that did not work. So, I ended up changing it back to 14086 as the user for the file explorer, and now I

I cannot figure out why the user name in Windows 10 file explorer under drive c:\Users is different than the user account name displayed when logging into one of my user account. For example, in file explorer, the administrative account under c:\users is
"Kenneth" . When I log in to this same user account, the name appears as : "Kenneth_Admin" which was the account name I had used when I had set up the account in the first place. Why would not the user names be the same under file explorer as it is when logging
into an account? Thanks for any information you could give me.

 

User Name Versus Login Name

Hello,

On my Win 10 Pro I decided that the login name was too complicated and decided to change it to something simpler. Then I reaslised that windows sees my account as the old login name when I check into it using file explorer. And while windows lets me log
in with the new simpler user ID it considers that to be an alias to the actual user name which is what I had earlier before I change it.

Whats up with this and how can I change the actual user name?

Changing the users name

Hello George,

We appreciate your time and effort to reach out to us again.

Please be informed that Microsoft Account does not allow the User account information with only the first name.

• Follow the below steps in order to be able to change the
  User Accounts name.

Note: You need Admin rights to do the following.

1. Press Windows Key + R combination and then type
netplwiz in the Run dialog box. Click
OK. If prompted for UAC, click Yes.

2. Now in the User Accounts window, check Users must enter a user name and password to enter this computer, if it is unchecked. In the
User Name section, select the user name to which you want to change the name and click
Properties.

3. In the Properties window, in the User name field, provide the desired user name. Then click
Apply followed by OK.

• Follow the below steps to change the "This PC"
  Folder name

1. Open File Explorer.

2. In the navigation panel, right click on This PC.

3. Type in a new name and press Enter.

4. If you have an explorer window open, then close and reopen it to fully apply.

You will now see this new name in explorer instead of the default name This PC.
