Windows 10: File explorer window freezes all the time + Windows cannot update

I got an Asus ZenBook 14 with Windows 10 . Currently, I have 2 issues.

1. File explorer window that freezes without call.

2. Windows update cannot update.


Around 2 weeks ago, when I tried to open a Microsoft Words (Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus) document, the file explorer window (and only that particular window) would freeze. When I clicked on the window, it would turn grey and change to "not responding". When I click the close button, it would respond by rebooting the entire desktop (including the task bar).

Everything else (including other file explorer windows) performed as usual. This also occurred with an error in Microsoft Words when starting up. The error read "The resource dll can not be loaded!".

After a few days, the file explorer window would also freeze when I tried to open Adobe PDF documents in a folder , click on items in a folder, select items in the folder for drag and drop, in addition to other simple functions.

These two days, the Microsoft Word documents have loaded up without any error, but file explorer remains uncooperative.

Initially, this issue would occur once every few documents opened. However, it now occurs with every click. I have to reboot file explorer with every click I make in the file explorer window. (Clicks on the desktop are present no problems.)


My hard disk is at 175GB/475GB and my RAM runs at 5GB/16GB usually, so I know it's not an issue with memory.

I have tried Windows update, but it always returns an error after 100% installation. The error reads "2019-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Systems (KB4489899) - Error 0x800f0982".


I don't recall installing any 3rd party software around the time the problem started.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows Explorer Replacement?

I don't use Internet Explorer, I meant the thing where you can look at files etc. Hotkey Windows+E. Maybe it's the wrong name in english though. *Stick Out Tongue

 

Some files listed in Windows Explorer are blue font

I seem to have run out of room on a Windows XP Pro system. I tried to defrag but don't have but 7% room available. I looked in Windows Explorer to try to find some huge files that might be corrupt and I see a few that are listed in blue. What does that mean? I have not compressed anything on purpose. Thanks
