Windows 10: File Explorer won't show anything

Click on This PC, or OneDrive, and the address window just goes into the green progress bar and hangs. "Working on it" for multiple minutes is a serious problem, especially when it never finishes.


Perhaps unrelated, perhaps not: I can't shut down the machine from the start menu. It basically ignores that command. If I do <ctrl><alt><del> and choose Shutdown, it does, but after a half an hour it still isn't fully shut down, and I have to hold the power switch down. Getting it to reboot again typically takes a short button press, followed by waiting a few minutes, repeat twice more, usually works the third time.


This is a Dell about a year old.

File Explorer STILL not opening

Greetings,

File Explorer has not been opening for at least a month. I have followed Microsoft's given steps in Fix
File Explorer if it won't open or start multiple times with no success. Has anyone found a solution?

File Explorer - Some PDF's show thumbnail image, some don’t

In Windows 10 File Explorer, I see thumbnails for a few of my pdf files but still see the generic Adobe pdf icon for most of them.

• In Windows 10 folder options, the checkbox for “Always show icons, never thumbnails” is unchecked.
• On the Adobe Reader preferences general tab, “Enable PDF thumbnails previews in Windows Explorer” is checked.
• Adobe Acrobat is set as my default PDF viewer.
• I have used Disk Cleanup to delete all my thumbnails to clear and rebuild the cache, yet the problem persists.

Any suggestions on how I can see all the pdf icons as thumbnails?

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (20.006.20034)
