Windows 10: File history is not backing up my files but says it did!

I use One Drive for backups but also like to back up to a local hard drive as well. Recently local backups using File History have failed, but I get a 'backup successful' message! The image below is the status of the Backup and restore window following a supposed successful back up.The image indicates a backup size of 559GB yet the available free space remains at the previous value of 1.82TB.During the supposed backup the widow displays a progress bar that indicates it is processing the files.It appears that the backup program is however not writing the backup that it created to the external h

File History not backing up any files

Thank you for the response. I had already checked that thread, but it hasn't helped me:

• The thread deals with Windows 8's implementation of File History, which is somewhat different to that of Windows 10.
• Most of the thread deals with setting up File History (which I have already done, precisely following the recommended steps). The third link in the thread might have been useful since it appears to link to a page that deals with troubleshooting File History
  (as opposed to setting it up), but unfortunately the link is dead.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

File History won't work, says insufficient space

Hi,

It is possible that the user profiles are also being restored when restoring your files in
File History. We suggest that you manually choose the files you want to restore. Here are the steps:

• Go to Control Panel.
• Search for File History.
• Click the Restore personal files option on the left pane of your screen.
• Select the folders you want to restore and then click the restore icon.

Note: Make sure that you don't copy the duplicated folders listed.

File History does not back up blocked files.

• Since when are you facing this?
• Did you make any changes in prior to this issue?
• Do you get any error message or error code on the screen code?
