Windows 10: File History is not working in Windows 11 on a network drive smb.

The folders will backup and I can see the different versions copied on my network drive. But if I right click the local file and look at properties -> Previous Versions. It says there are no previous versions available.

In regards to your concern, kindly try the steps below that could possibly fix the issue.

Method 1: Turn on File History

• type File History in Windows Search box, and select the File History to open it.
  
• Click Turn on button to restart File history to backup your personal files.
  
• You may go to Start -> Settings -> Update & Security -> Backup -> turn on automatically back up my files in Back up using File History section.
  
• Now, check if the error solved. How do you check if the file history is working? You could click Advanced settings. Click Open File History event logs to view recent events or errors (Event Viewer) in Event logs section.
  
• And you will see all specific details about what happened in File History.
  

Method 2 : Reconnect Your File History Drive

• Connect your hard drive and Choose Select Drive at the left panel in File History.
  
• Tap the original file history drive or another hard drive, and click Next. If you would like to backup to network drive, click Add network location.

Windows 11 File History won't work with network drive

I'm using Windows 11 with the latest updates.

I want to use a network drive from a Mac mounted as q: as drive from File History.

I can perfectly access the network drive with the File Explorer and can use any other software to read/write data on it.

When I select it as s drive in file history I get the error "0x80070002 the system cannot find the file specified"

I would like to inform you that if your File History drive has been disconnected for too long, or it doesn't have enough space to save temporary versions of your files. To continue saving copies of your files, you'll need to reconnect your File History drive.
Plug in your external File History drive or reselect your network. You can start a backup manually or wait for the next scheduled backup or reselect the drive. Here is the steps:

To manually start a backup

• 
  Open File History by pressing Windows key> type File History
  > Click on File History.
  
• 
  Tap or click Back up now.
  

To reselect your drive

• 
  Open File History by pressing Windows key> type File History
  > Click on File History.
  
• 
  Tap or click Select drive.
  
• 
  On the Select a File History drive page, tap or click your current drive or network location, and then tap or click
  OK.
