  1. File History - navigate or bookmark a certain date?

I set up file history on an old machine before moving to a new one both Windows 11. I associated my previous machine's file history to my new machine. In order to save space, I only restored the projects I am currently working on, and file history has been performing backups ever since. Now, if I want to restore something from my old machine, it seems that I must scroll all the way back, one version at a time, to find the last timestamp when the old machine was backed up. This is tedious. Is there a way to navigate directly to a certain date or bookmark it?

    :)

    File History restart

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

To change the backup drive for File History, the current process should be stopped. I suggest you to try the steps listed below to stop file history on an older drive and restart it on a new drive:

    Change File History backup drive:

    • Open Settings and navigate to Update & Security > Backup.
    • Click on More Options, scroll down to locate
Backup to a different drive section, and choose Stop Using Drive.
    • Plug in the new storage drive, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Backup,
      and choose Add a Drive.
    • Restart File History and configure it by referring to the article

    Hope it helps.

File History - Does not turn off

Thanks again for your suggestion. Most of the items mentioned were mentioned in your previous post.

As I mentioned in my original post, File History shows history entries in my Task Schedule menu History listings even though I have turned it off. Now, I did notice one other entry in the History listing. The History listing said “Maintenance Mode.” So,
I wonder if that mode reacts differently and rejects my File History Off and Task Schedule settings and lists File History listings under a different parameter. That may account for the history dates not agreeing with File History and Task Schedule dates.

File History - navigate or bookmark a certain date?

    Firefox has hidden my bookmarks

I can only address the library button behaviour: I have never used it, but now see that it does, as you have found, only show recent bookmarks. If it ever behaved differently I wouldn't know. I did search for help on how to modify what the library button offers up, and found references to 'bookmarking tools' on the bottom of this page:
Eliminate "Recently Bookmarked" and show the "Other Bookmarks" bookmarks in the sequence I want | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support
But I can find no such option when I try to reproduce the suggested action. Since a list of only recent bookmarks is no use to me, I decided I will hide the library button - and in its place add the 'bookmarks' one, which does at least open up my complete list of bookmarks, as shown here:

File History - navigate or bookmark a certain date? 334062d1621698007t-firefox-has-hidden-my-bookmarks-ffox-bmark-icon.png

Note that I usually have the FF menu showing, so access bookmarks from that. I also often use the bookmarks sidebar, and have just discovered that icon to the right of the 'library' one does just that - it toggles whichever sidebar (bookmarks, history, synced tabs) was most recently used. Live & learn!

I did find references elsewhere to using css files to tweak the menus, but that is a step too far for me.

Can you exclude certain files (not folders) from File History: I've been using File History & generally like the way it works.
